Habitat for Humanity of the River Valley helps current homeowners who are struggling to maintain the integrity of their home, due to age, disability, or family circumstances. We offer affordable home repairs and energy efficient upgrades to homeowners in Madison, Limestone, and Jackson Counties. This program aims to bring community together as we restore owner-occupied homes to a state of safety and accessibility.
Applications Open for Jackson County
Do you live in Jackson County and need a small- to medium-sized home repair?
Applications open May 4, 2026 and will be accepted on a rolling basis until funds are fully allocated. Funding is limited and assistance is not guaranteed.
Home Repair Program Criteria
- Need: The home is in need of a minor to moderate repair that is within HFHRV’s scope of work and the homeowner is unable to physically and/or financially complete the repair themselves.
- Ability to Pay: The homeowner is required to pay a portion of the repair cost based on a sliding scale that considers the homeowner’s income.
- Residency: The home in need of repair must be the homeowner’s primary residence and located within HFHRV’s service area, which includes Madison, Limestone, or Jackson County. Additionally, the homeowner must be up to date on property taxes, mortgage payments (if applicable), and homeowner’s insurance premiums.
- Willingness to Partner: The homeowner must be present during the duration of the repair work.
Eligible Repairs:
- Gutters, water heaters
- Porch repair/installation
- Door/storm door replacement
- Handrails and grab bars
- Attic insulation, smoke detectors
- Other minor–moderate repairs
How to Apply
Applications can be submitted in one of the following ways:

- Pick up a copy at our office (Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM)
- Please be mindful of other guests in our office. We ask that applications are not completed in the foyer.

Required Documents
All applications must be submitted with the following documents. At this time, Habitat is not able to make copies of documents, and we cannot accept documents submitted by email.
- Valid ID for all applicants
- Social Security Card or I-551 (Permanent Resident Card) for all applicants
- Two most recent months of bank statements
- Proof of income
- If working, two months of pay stubs. For example if paid biweekly, submit your last 4 paystubs, if paid monthly, your last 2 paystubs.
- □ If you are self-employed, please provide your last two years of federal tax returns (IRS Form 1040) including all schedules. Tax returns must be signed.
- Child Support: Bring court order and proof of payment for the last six months
- Alimony: Bring court order and proof of payment for the last six months
- Social Security Income/Disability Award Letter
- Proof of Homeowner’s Insurance
- Application fee
- $35 per applicant if paid in person (money order or cashier’s check only)
- $36.40 per applicant if paid online via PayPal (includes 4% processing fee) (When asked for account number put your full name). Pay Application Fee Online
- Important: Online payments must include the processing fee. Applications with incorrect payment amounts will be considered incomplete.
- All required documents must be submitted at the same time
- Incomplete applications will be denied

Habitat for Humanity of the River Valley is preparing to launch a new home repair program dedicated to serving veterans in our community. This program will focus on providing critical home repairs to help improve safety, accessibility, and overall living conditions.
At this time, we are gathering interest from eligible homeowners while we finalize program details and funding requirements. Submitting this form does not guarantee services or approval, but it will allow our team to follow up with you when the program officially opens for applications.
