For new construction homeowners, you have a limited warranty covering latent defects for one year from move-in. For existing homeowners, you only have a warranty until you close. Latent defects are hidden, non-apparent flaws in property, construction, or products that cannot be discovered through reasonable, customary inspection. These flaws—often relating to structural, mechanical, or design issues—typically manifest over time, such as in plumbing, electrical, or foundation issues.
