Talk about a go-getter!! Jessica Leslie, formerly a CNA for ten years and currently a nurse for three years, is a go-getter! She is a single mother of two lovely young ladies (ages 7 and 14), and they are her world. She’s worked hard for a long time and her hard work finally paid off. When asked why she chose a Habitat home, this was her response:

“After doing my research, I found out the mortgage was at 0% interest, which to me meant affordable homeownership. Then there was the location in which Habitat was building, which meant a safe environment for my children. Where I currently live, I do not have that feeling of safety and with a new Habitat home, my kids can be kids (run and play outside), without worrying about the conditions of/in their neighborhood.”

Jessica heard about Habitat for Humanity through the Self Sufficiency Program, which she considers a great resource. She missed her first opportunity to sign up by one day, but she was persistent and kept checking our website and our Facebook page and ten months later, she was one of the first people to sign up!

“The Habitat program is not a quick process. It requires patience, being humble and no you don’t just get a house… You have to put in the actual work. I advise anyone who comes into this program to enjoy the experience and life lessons, but most of all enjoy the journey to homeownership.”

We couldn’t have said it better ourselves. Congratulations Jessica!
